How to Scan Weights to your Farmwizard App
In this video we are going to have a look at How to Scan Weights to your Farmwizard App.
Let’s go to the Orchid FarmWizard app and press on the app icon to run it. We need to make sure we are synchronised so press on synchronise first. Select ‘OK’ when the app asks you if you are sure you want to synchronise. As long as you are connected to the internet, it will synchronise and you’ll receive the two messages: “Databas
e updated” and “Loaded data entry lists” select ‘OK’ for each of these. You will then see the familiar ‘home screen’ we are ready to begin.
Once outside and you are ready to weigh the animal(s), go down the screen and press on “Weigh” make sure everything is ready; the weigher is connected to the load bars, make sure that it’s powered on. It should show zero dot zero if it’s correctly connected to the load bars.
If you are using Trutest load bars then that will display immediately, if they’re not using Trutest load bars then you may need to go into “Menu”and then “Settings” and you’ll see a setup item there to select the correct load bars for your weight crate.
We are now ready and going to power on the Bluetooth stick reader. This must be done before we tap on “Start reading tags”, once selected this puts the app into “tag reading mode” and you should get a message on screen to say that you’re ready to start scanning tags.
In this video we simulate a weight going onto the load bars. You need to wait for the stable light and stable weight indicator light to come on. Once lit you can now scan the tag and the first weight will populate in the app. In the video we simulate another weight. The light comes back on, on the EziWeigh to indicate a stable weight has been achieved and at that point, you scan the tag.
You might be able to hear in the background, the phone vibrates, to tell you when the weight and the ID has been loaded into the grid. When we do a few more weights, you will see on the list, it adds the most recent entry to the top so you’ve got the most recent scanned weight at the top. When weighing multiple animals, the light goes off when the animal leaves the crate and comes back on when the next one enters the crate.
On the right hand side of the screen, you will see that as well as the current weight of the animal, you can see the last recorded weight of that animal, if one has been recorded previously. The app will calculate a daily live weight gain, and then the last column is a checkbox which allows you to indicate whether you are going to mark these animals for move. Marking animals for move is a way of identifying them so when you synchronise the data (when you have internet connection) onto your FarmWizard account, you will be able to bring up that list and then convert it into a full move to update the flock register if in fact those animals have left the holding.
When you have finished the weighing session, press the volume down button on your phone. You will hear, the Trutest gives a beep, there is an indicator, a little triangle on the screen at the top right hand corner, next to the Bluetooth icon. That will be on while you are scanning and weighing and then disappear when you press the volume down on your android phone.
Once you press the volume down button you will receive a message: ‘Click OK to record these events or cancel to return to screen to edit them.’ Select ‘OK’ to record the events. There will be a second message to tell you that the weights have been recorded and they’ll be transferred the next time you synchronise.
Select ‘OK’.
We are now done on this screen so you can use the back button. Always use the back button from the data entry screens rather than the back button on your phone, to make sure you stay within the app. You should now be back at the home screen.
You can now go to recorded events management and you will see at the top, there is one batch pending. Select “View Pending Events” and scroll down a little way, you will see the recorded weights. If you wanted to, you could select the “Delete” link on the right hand side to remove that batch if you didn’t want to synchronise it with the rest of your data, if you wanted to clear it all off the phone. Remember that the data is actually stored on the phone until you press “Synchronise” again, so you must remember after a successful data entry session, when you are within range of your internet or achieve a 3G mobile connection out in the field you will need to press on ‘Synchronise’ again to update the new data to your FarmWizard database.
The App will prompt you to confirm you are connected to the internet. The first message after synchronisation is: “All Events Submitted”, in this case, the new information that you recorded, the weights has been sent to your FarmWizard account in the cloud. Just select “Ok” to that message, and then the rest of the synchronisation will complete.
