The Herd Manager sub-menu provides screens for managing the animal identities in the current herd.  The most important screens are:

Add Animal

The Add Animal screen enables entry of a new tag number as a single record. You can optionally tick the Record Movement with BCMS button to automatically report the On movement to the CTS or APHIS system.

Group Manager

The Group Manager offers 45 group “containers” to which animal identities can be assigned.  A Group in FarmWizard can be used in two ways:

1. As a Sub-Group to represent a batch of animals that are housed together under the same management regime.  One animal can only be a member of one Sub-Group at one time

2. As a Report-Group to store a list of animals that has been generated by a FarmWizard Rule Report. One animal identity can be assigned to multiple report groups at the same time

Re-Add Animal

The Re-Add Animal function has a dual-purpose:

1. Enables you to temporarily move animals off the herd holding, e.g for seasonal grazing

2. Provides the ability to add back animals that have been sold by mistake

Batch Manager

The Batch Manager is a powerful tool that enables you to record data against a selected batch of animal ear tags.  Using the Batch Manager will save you time when recording events like routine medicine treatments and animal sales.

Using the Batch Manger is a simple two-step process:

1. Select the list of animal IDs that you wish to record an event against. This can be done using several methods (see screen shot below)

2. Select the Event Type to record and define the detail. The defined event will be saved against each animal selected in Step 1

Beef Main Screens

You can select animals using the following methods:

1 Select “Ear Tags” or “Freeze Brands” (management tags) from the drop down and type in a comma (,) separated list e.g. 34, 35, 36.  Click Select and the software will attempt to match and select the list
2 Select a date when the required animals had another event recorded on FarmWizard.  Click Select to locate these animals
3 Define a filter using one or more criteria.  Click Filter to select the matching animals
4 Select animals from the main List Box. Hold down the Ctrl key on your keyboard and left click on the required animals while scrolling down the list

When you have all the animal identities selected, click the Record Event button at the top of the screen to select the required Event Type and define it’s detail.

Tip: when filtering animals by herd join date or date of birth, remember that you can just enter a month and year, instead of a specific date.  For example, type “08/2015” into the Date of Birth box to select all animals born in August 2015.

The Beef Manager Menu

The Beef Manager main menu gives access to data entry screens for animal performance data, including sale details, weights and Kill Out data.

If you are using electronic tagging (EID) and wish to record data via EID tag reading, the Beef Manager menu provides screens to configure your FarmWizard account for electronic tag reading hardware.

Performance data can be entered for single animals or for a batch of animals bought or sold between two defined dates.

The Reports Menu

The Reports menu provides access to the full suite of FarmWizard reports.  The Reports menu is split into three sub menus:

•QA Reporting

•Rule Reports

•Beef Performance

QA Reporting

QA stands for Quality Assurance and includes reports for the following statutory and management purposes:

•Herd Register

•Medicine Book – medicine stock control and usage

•Feeds – record of purchased feed and allocation to animal groups

All reports can be customised for presentation on hard-copy or electronic formats (spreadsheet and PDF).  The report data can be controlled through the use of selection criteria.

Rule Reports

The Rule Reports enable you to produce custom lists of animal IDs and medicine treatments. These lists can be viewed on-screen or downloaded to spreadsheet or PDF documents.

Beef Performance

The Beef Performance reports provide a comprehensive suite of reports for monitoring the physical and financial performance of individuals or batches of animals, either live on-farm or sold.  For suckler herds, additional reports are available to analyse individual sires and dams through the performance of progeny.
